Chicken Tikka Masala, Saffron Rice, Poori from Saffron Indian Restaurant in Tucson

I went to Saffron Indian Bistro for a birthday dinner. I had chicken tikka masala (medium spice) and poori, which also came with saffron rice.

The chicken tikka masala had a heavy tomato cream sauce. There were fairly big cubes of chicken, and the red chicken tikka was nice and moist. The medium spiciness also went perfectly with the chicken.

The saffron rice was well-cooked and nicely seasoned.

The deep-fried poori (whole wheat bread) was also nice and poofy, but it was a little crunchier and oiler than I am used to. They weren't as good as the poori my grandma makes, but they were still pretty good.

Kung Pao Chicken Lunch Special

I ordered a Kung Pao Chicken Special to-go from the China Joy restaurant in Carefree, AZ during their lunch hours (11:30 am - 2:30 pm). When I ordered over the phone, the woman that answered stated the food would be ready in 10-15 minutes. I got to China Joy about 20 minutes after ordering and the woman at the counter said she thought I had forgotten to pick up the food, which was kind of annoying.

Anyway, when I ate the Kung Pao chicken, it was just a wave of salty flavor masking a little bit of spiciness. The best tasting parts of the Kung Pao chicken dish were the carrots because the sweetness from the carrots offset the saltiness of the sauce.

The fried rice was just brown rice with a tiny amount of fried egg, and its dominant flavor was also saltiness. The egg roll was a vegetable egg roll and was the saltiest of the three items. The wrapper on the egg roll was also a little doughy.

The lunch was nothing special, and everything just tasted salty.

Oreganos Bollo Angel Hair Pasta with Sausage

I had some of Oregano's Bollo Angel Hair Pasta. It was ordered to-go with marinara sauce and sausage on the side.

Oreganos Bollo Angel Hair Pasta with Sausage

The spicy marinara sauce looks thick, kind of like tomato paste. It isn't actually very spicy at all, and I don't really like the marinara sauce because it is too tangy for me. The angel hair pasta is OK, but nothing special. The sausage is a little spicy, but it is very salty.

I prefer this pasta with very little of the marinara sauce and with Parmesan cheese and sausage added to cut out any sweetness / tangy-ness.

I wouldn't buy this pasta myself -- I would rather buy angel hair pasta and a jar of pasta sauce at the grocery store. However, if you like tangy marinara sauce, then I guess this could be a great pasta for you.
