Box of Lemongrass Chicken Stix from Trader Joe's
Lemongrass Chicken Stix from Trader Joe's cooked

I've seen the frozen Thai Lemongrass Chicken Stix at Trader Joe's for a while, but I've never had it, so I finally decided to give a box a try. I cooked the whole box of 10 in a toaster oven following the oven instructions. I baked them on top of foil instead of a baking sheet.

The chicken stick wrappers were crunchy like spring rolls, and the texture on the filling inside was good; it wasn't mushy. I liked the slightly sweet lemongrass flavor of the "lemongrass-flavored" chicken. Unfortunately, that wasn't the strongest taste. The taste of the chicken was a little lemony and VERY peppery. The first "chicken stick" I had was OK, but as I continued eating, the pepper taste became way too overwhelming, and I couldn't eat any more.

Box of Maya Kaimal Chicken Roti Wraps from Costco

Maya Kaimal Chicken Roti Wraps from Costco on plate

Growing up with some Indian food, I have had roti / rotli / chapati (flatbread) with rice and chicken curry, but never in a wrap. Costco had some frozen Indian-inspired chicken roti wraps with chicken curry and basmati rice inside, which sounded interesting to try. It was quick and easy to cook following the microwave instructions, and the wrap didn't come out overcooked or undercooked in our microwave.

The inside of the roti wrap did have a curry taste, but the curry taste was a little more bland than I expected. The curry was just a little bit spicy, but it wasn't really spicy at all, which was expected since the box says it is mild. The texture of the chicken, rice, and peas on the inside were all fine. The rice is maybe a little mushy, which is to be expected since it's frozen in a sauce. The roti didn't taste a lot like the Indian roti I have had and tasted more like just a regular whole grain tortilla. While it could use more curry taste overall, it still tasted good, and it was nice as a quick snack.

Uncle Ben's Jasmine Rice
Bowl of Uncle Ben's Jasmine Rice

While we were at Fry's, we were looking for an quick and easy microwavable rice that would go with some Asian food. While I'm not usually a fan of Uncle Ben's rice, we still decided to try some of Uncle Ben's Jasmine Ready Rice.

The Uncle Ben's jasmine rice was pretty easy to cook as it just took 90 seconds in the microwave. While the rice had the nice aroma of jasmine rice, it didn't really taste or feel like jasmine rice. The grains were also a little slick and oily or something. It was OK as a quick, side of rice, but it wasn't great.
