Trader Joe's Chicken Sausage & Cornbread Stuffing

We tried some of Trader Joe's Chicken Sausage and Cornbread Stuffing as a side with some turkey.

We warmed it up just following the microwave instructions on the back of the box.

The dominant flavors in the stuffing were celery and pepper, and I didn't really like the texture of the little celery pieces. I couldn't really taste the chicken sausage because I just tasted pepper.

The stuffing was OK, but wasn't great.

We have been using Stove Top Cornbread Stuffing Mix to make stuffing to go with our turkey dinners for the past three years or so. The taste of the stuffing is a balance of the sweet cornbread and salt (it's a little more on the salty side), but it still makes for a pretty good stuffing every time. It isn't too mushy or too dry, and there is no weird texture.

Tips for making the Stove Top stuffing (using the microwave):

  • We usually follow the microwave instructions for microwaving the Stove Top stuffing, except we use less butter. The recipe directions on the box state to use 4 Tbsp. of butter, but we usually only use one tablespoon of butter.

    • Adding butter to the StoveTop Stuffing

  • If you are wondering if you should use salted or unsalted butter.... do not use salted butter! (Unless maybe you love extremely salty food..) We accidentally used salted butter to make the Stove Top stuffing once and it was way too salty. It was like eating bread with a heap of salt on it. We couldn't eat it and had to throw it away. Now we know to pay attention and make sure to always use unsalted butter.

  • When adding the butter in, shave the butter into pieces and distribute the pieces over the stuffing.

  • After microwaving the stuffing, the plastic wrap poofs up -- be careful not to burn yourself with the steam!

  • By transferring the stuffing into a different bowl after microwaving it, you don't have to fluff it with a fork!

    I didn't really know what corn pudding was before I tried this. When my boyfriend was trying to explain what it was to me, it didn't sound very good. He bought some of the Trader Joe's Corn Pudding and thought we could try some as a side, so that's what we did.

    We followed the microwave instructions and when it was done it looked like scrambled eggs or some weird cheesy mush. It definitely did not look appetizing at first glance.

    However, I still went ahead and tried it, and to my amazement, it was actually delicious!

    The corn was not mushy at all, and the sweetness of the corn mixed with cheese really went well together. It was perfect as a side dish. I was very sad when we had eaten all of it up.
